Starting Early with the Openverse Walk
As the sun rises over the landscape of Van Vihar National Park, a unique and exciting event awaits you during Contributor Day at WordCamp Bhopal 2023. Get ready to embark on a “Photo Walk” that’s all about capturing the beauty of nature and wildlife through your camera lens.
At 7 am, embrace the National Park’s serenity while capturing its beauty through your lens. You can be a professional photographer or a beginner who loves to capture their surroundings through their mobile camera and still be a valuable part of the Photo walk. Your photos will become part of the WordPress Photos Directory project, a platform for openly licensed images. By contributing your snapshots of nature and wildlife, you’re enriching a collaborative visual resource.
How to Participate
- Meetup: Join us at Van Vihar National Park at 6:30 am on Contributor Day (October 7th).
- Capture: Let your camera tell nature’s story.
- Share: After the walk, upload your photos to the WordPress Photo Directory, where they’ll become part of a shared visual resource.
The Openverse walk will be followed by the Contributor Day event, where all WordPress enthusiasts will come together as a team, combining our unique strengths to contribute to WordPress in various capacities. The Contributor Day will start at 12:30 pm, where you’ll get a chance to choose a team and start your contribution journey. We’ll announce the venue soon in our upcoming blog post on Contributor Day and open the registrations. Here are the Contributor Day details:

Join the Team that Inspires You
We’ve opened up contributions to various teams, each with its own focus and mission. Here are some of the teams you can be a part of:
- Polyglots: Translate WordPress into different languages.
- Core: Dive into the heart of WordPress, discussing coding, identifying bugs, and enhancing functionalities.
- Support: Provide assistance to fellow community members by answering their queries.
- Training: Create educational materials for WordPress, including lesson plans and resources for live sessions.
- Documentation: The WordPress Documentation team is responsible for coordinating all documentation initiatives around WordPress. It manages a comprehensive range of documentation resources, including user guides, developer documentation and contributor resources.
- Photos: Submit the Van Vihar walk and other photos to the WordPress Photo Directory.
While every team will have dedicated leads to help you get started and answer all your queries, here’s a quick checklist to help you prepare for the contribution day.
- If you do not already have one, you can create accounts on WordPress.org and WordPress Slack Channel.
- Reserve your spot for Contributor Day (Registrations will open soon!).
- Select the team that aligns with your interests and skills.
- Bring a laptop with you as it will be your tool to participate in the day’s activities actively.
- Learn, Engage, and Grow by diving into the experience, learning new things, engaging with the community, and watching yourself grow.
