Purpose –
We often observe that the plugins count on the site is often a neglected part, that eventually makes an impact on clean website, speed and other factors. Many times plugins are installed on the site to try out a new feature or tweak/extend an existing functionality. Often its track is not kept (when or why a plugin was added) and it ends up with unnecessary or unsuitable plugins on the site. (In other words, plug-ins aren’t plugged out once their purpose is served.) The solution is Plugin Audit. Shamali has come up with a stepwise plan for plugin audit that helps keep track of plugins and reduce unnecessary plugins on the site.
Scope –
The plugin audit can be done in 3 stages –
Stage 1 – Cleanup
Stage 2 – Reduce duplication
Stage 3 – Improvisation
Outcome –
From the experience on sites the plugin audit was tried on, following outcomes can be achieved –
- Reducing unnecessary code getting loaded
- Website speed
- Maintained site, reduces updates work in future maintenance cycles.
Intended Audience –
WordPress developers, consultants, site owners and admins
